Educator Courses

Professional Development for Teachers, Professors and Administrators

“I started off this course thinking that global education was a small part of what I do as a teacher – I have left knowing that it is the core of everything”

-Ashley Kaplan, educator course, Cambodia

We invite educators from a diversity of backgrounds to join our most veteran instructors as we weave together a rich blend of cutting edge curricular ideas, meaningful engagement, and lively discussion. Dragons’ Global Educator Seminars provide a space for community building and exchange of best practices amongst progressive and innovative educators who strive to weave global education into classroom curriculum.  Participating teachers are sure to be inspired by the course’s itinerary, motivated by the depth of authentic engagement, and challenged by the fresh ideas and intellectual curiosity of their traveling companions.  Global Educator participants return home having learned from the voices of farmers and urban professionals alike, government officials and social critics, children and community leaders. But more than returning home with a fresh perspective to share, participating faculty return home with a robust curricular toolkit that enlivens and deepens their classroom teaching

Dragons’ Global Educator programs are designed to enrich the teaching experience of teachers in History, Global Studies, Comparative Religion, Peace and Conflict Studies, Economics, Language Study and Service Learning. They are for educators who wish to improve upon their abilities to assume leadership positions within their school. And they are for any teacher who wishes to bring global issues, experiential learning, and an interculturally informed perspective to the classroom.

“Dragons Global Educator program in Cambodia offered me access to people and places I could not have otherwise experienced. Each day we engaged in meaningful human connections and profound experiences that changed the way will talk about Global Studies at Pingree. Overall the Program was a great success, and one of the best professional development experiences of my life.”
-David Medvitz, Technology Education, Pingree School

We understand teenagers: Dragons has facilitated over 250,000 in-field days of safe, educational experiences for students aged 15-22. We have developed risk management systems and a global leadership curriculum designed for this age group and a toolkit of activities for teachers. All educator courses introduce participants to our risk management systems and our core curriculum in Global Citizenship, Awareness of Self, and Leadership skills.

Experienced, professional teachers: We staff educator courses with experienced instructors and employ exceptional regional contacts – professors, aid workers, and local experts – to facilitate in-depth discussions and interactions with the peoples and communities we visit.

Our responsible-travel philosophy: Dragons is not a luxury-travel organization. We use public transportation, stay in small, family-owned lodges or in local families’ homes, and chip in to help the community in ways that sometimes get us dirty. Please come ready for an adventure!
