Tim Patterson

Cambodia, Mekong Semester Instructor

B.A. in International Relations, Williams College.

Tim grew up in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, in a small town with one paved road and no stoplights. After graduating from Williams College, Tim spent two years as a public school teacher in the far north of Japan.

Escaping cold Japanese winters, he moved to Cambodia and pursued a career as a travel journalist, publishing articles in the San Francisco Chronicle and Kyoto Journal and contributing to a first-edition Fodor's travel guide.

After leading his first Dragons program in Cambodia, Tim received a grant from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting to document the freedom struggle of ethnic Kachins in northern Myanmar, and spent one month reporting from territory held by the Kachin Independence Army.

Tim recently instructed the inaugural "Life Along the Mekong" semester program for Where There Be Dragons.
