Alyx Ruzevich

Alyx’s passion for interculturalism was instilled from a young age while growing up in a half-Croatian and half-Chamorro household. Motivated by a desire to address global challenges through cross-cultural dialogue, she earned a B.A. degree in French and International Development Studies. She studied abroad in Angers, France and traveled throughout Europe independently, including an interval as an artisan cheese-maker with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF). Following graduation from university, Alyx served with the Peace Corps as a Sustainable Agriculture Extension Agent in rural Senegal. She worked closely with small-scale farmers, women’s market gardening groups, and youth clubs to promote food security and environmental stewardship through education and community development projects. Since returning to the U.S., Alyx has worked as an educator and youth leader in experiential learning programs with a strong focus in environmental conservation and urban food systems. She is currently in a graduate program in international policy to advance her interests in youth and women’s participatory development, global affairs, and agro-ecology.

In her free time, Alyx can usually be found in her tiny kitchen conducting baking and fermentation experiments, outside in all seasons hiking the local trails, or in an ice cream shop indecisively sampling all the flavors before invariably deciding on vanilla with rainbow sprinkles.
