Julia Silvestre
BA in Sociology, Universidad de San Carlos, Guatemala
Julia Silvestre is a Guatemalan sociologist and activist for equal rights and social justice with active roles in women and student movements. She has led social projects on women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health, and organized spaces for young, queer, indigenous, and diverse women. Julia has also worked as a technical advisor for projects supporting people who have been forcibly displaced in the Mesoamerican Region.
After years of working in advocacy and organizing in Guatemala City, Julia left the offices and classrooms for lakes, mountains and connecting with the ancestral Mayan knowledge having studies in traditional midwifery as a way to pursue answers to dilemmas of civilization: climate change, community and connection with nature.
Julia enjoys the pleasure of a good coffee, dancing to Latin music, and connecting through art.
