A lot of unstructured time amidst the forests and farms in Southern India around her maternal ancestral home is what sparked the love and curiosity of the outdoors for Sanjana. All her childhood summers were spent exploring this backyard and rock climbing in Badami and Hampi the mecca of rock climbing in India. She played field hockey, table tennis, track and field at a professional level for ten years of her school life.
Sanjana leads trips in the white mountains of New England, Adirondacks, Wind river range in the Rockies, Big horn mountain range, Canyonland national park, and the Indian Himalayas. She is an instructor at National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) for seven years.
Apart from working eight months out of a year in the rugged mountains, Sanjana enjoys conversations about neuroscience, self development, gardening, organic farming and about different cultures and beliefs of the world. From her love and commitment for the environment Sanjana along with a dear friend of hers started an organic farming company during the pandemic. When not in the wilderness Sanjana spends her time hanging out with the farmers and learning about the land and the food.
Sanjana says ‘learning and living in the outdoors made me the person I am today. After every course I work I come out having learnt something about my inner self and the outer world.’ She believes time spent outdoors can bring us close to ourselves and in turn it helps us understand the world better.
