Daniel Stolkowski

Daniel has worked with teenagers and young adults in various capacities, including formal teaching, counseling, mentoring, and youth community building. His first trip to China was as a high school exchange student in 1999, and he has journeyed back and forth between the United States and various regions of China ever since. His time in China has included one year of study at Beijing University, management of the China field office for an international NGO based at Harvard University’s Center for International Development, and Uyghur language study at Xinjiang Normal University.

In the United States, Daniel has worked as a Community Organizer in Boston’s Chinatown, interned at the White House Office of Management and Budget, and served as civilian support to the U.S. Army. He currently teaches Mandarin Chinese full time at Charlottesville High School in Central Virginia and takes education classes at the University of Virginia. Daniel has been leading groups in China since 2006 and first began working with Where There Be Dragons in 2009.

Daniel’s father is from France, and his mother is from the Philippines. He has lived in numerous cities across the U.S. and has traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His goal is to visit a new country every year and eat as many french fries as possible. When he is not grading student papers, Daniel enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and attending live music shows.
