Being a part of the Dragons community extends far beyond your program. We’re excited to provide a space to strengthen and build connections with fellow alumni, share engagement opportunities, and keep you in the loop with upcoming happenings. We hope the Alumni Hub can serve as a home to venture back out into the WTBD world – if only through a simple Yak Post here and there.
Every year our team connects with recent alumni to join our ambassador program. Student ambassadors support our outreach team by promoting WTBD at their school or in their local communities, joining us at in-person events across the US, and providing valued insider perspectives to help us get the word out to future students.
Some of my favorite moments took place during times of transition. Spirits ran high through the group and we could goof off as we processed our past and future surroundings. Each moment was an opportunity to learn from both each other and our environment.
While staying the day in the village of Beding towards the end of our long trek, our group hiked up a super steep hillside that led to a tiny old monastery. I wrote in my journal "we are now eye to eye with the clouds". Our whole group was in awe of the literal and figurative heights we had reached. We all sat together on this overhang and quietly took in this euphoric moment as we gazed out into the valley of Beding.
While on a group excursion to a temple in Varanasi, an older gentlemen came up to me and another student with two adorable baby goats in his arms and gently handed them over to us, smiling gleefully at us the whole time. Although I am still confused as to why I was handed a baby goat, this experience remains one of my best memories from my program!
My favorite memories mostly involved reflecting on our experiences together. Or small moments like talking together on a hike or cooking together in the group!
My favorite experience during my program was living with my homestay family in Urubamba, Peru!
