Catherine Pitt
MSc Development Management, Merit, London School of Economics and Political Science
BA Honors French and German, University of Oxford
Originally from the UK, Catherine was born and grew up in the multicultural environment of Luxembourg in the heart of Europe. This fostered a love of other cultures, people, languages and travel from an early age and has influenced many other aspects of her professional and spiritual life. She studied French and German at Oxford University, followed by a Masters in International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Motivated by a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others, she has worked in the humanitarian sector (based in the UK and Senegal) for over 10 years, supporting organizations across the world to raise funds for different projects from education for primary school children in the mountains of Peru, to newborn and child survival health work in Myanmar, and protection for children on the move migrating across West Africa. Spiritual enquiry has driven much of Catherine’s endeavors, taking her to silent meditation retreats in Thailand, ashrams in India, and yoga retreats in Indonesia. She is also an enthusiastic artist and passionate about music, weaving this into her life whenever she can.
It was in 2012 that a work opportunity first took Catherine to Senegal, where she combined her interest in spirituality, creating a yoga studio in Dakar as well as a yoga outreach program at a centre for vulnerable women and girls and at a women’s prison. After several years of back and forth, Catherine settled a year ago by the ocean in Ngor village, Dakar where she lives with her 9 month old son, Kabir. She speaks fluent French, German, and Spanish and is dedicated to improving her Wolof! She is excited about taking up her first post with Dragons and in particular this opportunity to engage with and support students in their journey of learning, self-reflection, and service during their time in Senegal.
