John O'Connor
Throughout John’s life, exploration and development of interpersonal connection has been of upmost importance in his learning and daily growth. During college, John visited South India for a two and a half week program due to his interest in eastern culture and spirituality. He was immediately inspired by the people, temples, and powerful energies that were present in the areas he visited. John has since returned to India and other parts of Southeast Asia to further explore these traditions and provide service for people in need. Due to his interest in Buddhism, John has lived in a monastery and practiced various forms of meditation along with participating in retreats.
After graduating college, John spent some time working in a school in Newton Massachusetts, but desired to get involved in experiential education. Thus, he more recently lived and worked aboard Schooner Roseway, a 137ft wooden ship that ran educational programs out of the Boston Harbor in the summer and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the winter. He has worked with a wide variety of students in all sorts of environmental conditions and is passionate about giving students hands on experience. John was introduced to Dragons by his sister Michaela, who has lead numerous trips in South America. John is excited to expose students to eastern traditions and share his knowledge and love for exploring different perspectives and cultures.
John enjoys being outside and participating in board sports. He works on developing compassion and believes that kindness and service are vitally important to cultivation of a healthier world.
