Maren Scribner
B.A. Education Foundations & Spanish Studies, University of Oregon USA
Maren Scribner is an international educator and seasoned program instructor originally from
Portland, Oregon. Maren grew up adventuring in old-growth forests, visiting the coast and
backpacking throughout the Cascades. Maren’s first solo international experience was in high
school when she participated with Amigos de las Americas and lived with a host family in the
Dominican Republic for a summer. Having that experience significantly shaped her life, as she
discovered her love for ethical travel and how to pursue sustainable projects when working
internationally.
Throughout college, Maren worked and volunteered with Outdoor Schools and numerous
childcare centers that prioritize providing resources for low income families. Maren studied
abroad in Argentina and then independently backpacked throughout the west of Argentina,
central Chile and Peru. After graduating in 2019, Maren joined the Peace Corps and worked with
teachers to enhance student literacy skills and create behavior management plans at a local public
school in the Dominican Republic. Over the years Maren has worked with nonprofits as a
Resource Access Specialist in Portland, taught 2nd grade in Costa Rica and was the El Pacifico
Project Director in Panama working with Amigos de las Americas. Most recently Maren has been
leading diverse, educational school programs between Arizona, the East Coast and Central
America.
Maren is deeply passionate about working with youth through experiential education and
exploring what it means to be a global citizen. Maren loves pushing her students to question their
perspectives and stretch beyond their comfort zone – because that’s where growth happens!
When Maren is not leading international or domestic programs she spends her time visiting
family, doing yoga or volunteering.
