Shanti Magar
Shanti began working as a Dragons instructor in 2017. While working with Dragons she has attained her Wilderness First Responder certification and her undergraduate education. Shanti has cultivated deep, strong relationships with the many people in the Dragons community in Nepal, and is currently using these relationships, along with her extensive instructor experience, to serve as Country Coordinator for all Dragons programs in Nepal.
Shanti first started working with Dragons as an in-country support staff for semester programming in 2013, later becoming an instructor intern in 2017. Being a young Nepali girl, it was challenging for her to travel around the country because of the cultural expectations in Nepal that girls should be inside the house and not traveling. Speaking with foreign people was new and she was very shy, especially as she was working on her mastery of English. At that time, it was challenging for her to open herself to international students, pushing both her linguistic and cultural comfort zones.
Shanti worked hard over many years and with each program gained a more and more confidence. With more exposure to Dragons groups and thanks to her incredible spirit, Shanti kept challenging herself as new opportunities arose. She has also worked as a consultant for several NGOs in Kathmandu while maintaining her role within the Dragons community, continuing her studies, and supporting her family. As the time passed her family also started noticing how much she had grown and loved her work. They are fully supportive and very happy about the new opportunities and challenges that she takes on. Shanti loves to travel and explore the world. In addition to her love for being in the Himalaya and sharing Nepali culture, she has enjoyed traveling internationally in Asia and North America and looks forward to visiting many new places in the future.
