Tsheten Sherpa
B. A. in Development Studies
Born in a traditional Sherpa family, Tsheten was born in a village in the foothills of Everest region where he
spent the first few years with his siblings. At an early age, he was enrolled in a Tibetan Shakya monastery in
India where he spent two years as a monk. Tsheten spent most of his adult life in the capital city until
graduating from Kathmandu University.
During his college years, he spent semester breaks trekking in west Nepal and driving across Nepal. One of
his past academic projects was (EIA) research on Chinese hydro projects in Annapurna Conservation Area,
where he did a survey of impact on the local community by hydro dam construction. Due to his academic
interest in Food Systems of Nepal, he was also part of research on Food security in remote villages in
eastern Nepal.
Tsheten is an avid trekker and an admirer of the pristine and sacred status of the Himalayas. He loves to
travel and discover new places and make friends along the journey. Also having been a keen observer of
development discourse in Nepal, he likes to talk on the issues related to development and conservation. He
has also worked in various communities building schools and earthen homes with a local NGO, and has
been a part of many projects including free health camp in villages, disaster preparedness training after the
earthquake of 2015.
Tsheten loves to mountain bike, play guitar and read non-fiction novels during his free time.
